Sender Policy Framework, or SPF, is a validation system, which is intended to prevent the so-called e-mail spoofing where an e-mail message is sent from one e-mail address, but to look as being sent from another, generally with the idea to scam the recipient in some way. When SPF protection is activated for a domain name, an exclusive record is generated for it in the Domain Name System and all of the DNS servers worldwide receive it. The record contains all of the e-mail servers that are permitted to send authentic messages from an e-mail address within the domain. When an email is sent, the very first DNS server it encounters checks the SPF record and when its sending server is authorized, the message is forwarded to the target receiver. When, however, the sending server is not contained in the SPF record for the specified domain, the e-mail message will not be sent and it will be removed. In the event that you employ this service, it will prevent third parties from sending spam that seem to have been sent from you.

SPF Protection in Shared Hosting

If you host your domains in a shared hosting account on our end and we handle the emails for them, you'll be able to enable SPF protection for them with several clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is available in a section of its own where you are able to view which domains are currently protected. For the ones which aren't, you can activate the SPF protection option and configure a variety of things during this process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your mailboxes, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and even to create a rule that emails can be sent only if your domains use our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, but it can be used if we handle the email addresses for your domain names and you are not using a different email supplier. The newly created records will propagate within a day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an email by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your domain names in a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you'll be able to employ the SPF protection feature as a part of the regular group of services that you will have with this type of website hosting. Starting the protection will require just a few easy steps in the Hepsia Control Panel, so that even when you've never employed this type of function before, you won't have any type of issues. Using a really easy to work with interface, you'll simply need to type in the information of the mail server that will be permitted to send messages from your addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). Once the newly generated record propagates, nobody will be able to fake any email for that particular domain and send messages from a server different from the one you have typed in. This doesn't necessarily have to be our mail server, however if we take care of your e-mails, you're able to allow an extra level of security by selecting an option that email messages can be send from addresses @your-domain.com only in the event that the domain uses our MX records. Our technical support staff can help you 24/7 if you have any questions related to this service.
