SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks via a command line. The protocol is preferred by many experienced users, due to the fact that the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access can be employed for lots of things depending on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the hosting server allows for it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for virtually anything - you could install software or restart particular services including the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed primarily with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients that allow you to employ the protocol if your PC is working with a different Operating System as well. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port although lots of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

When you have a shared hosting account with our company and you want to handle your content remotely through SSH, you could receive SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal does not include this feature as standard, you may add it with a couple of clicks through the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you shall see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You could also choose what password you would want to use, given that it does not have to be the same as the one for the account. We've prepared many Help articles where you can find all the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting package, along with examples of how they are used. Also, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to receive SSH access to it with just a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. Once you go to the SSH section, you shall discover the details that you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, if necessary. These login credentials are also required if you'd like to upload files using a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we offer you. A detailed list of the commands that you can execute shall give you a better idea of what tasks you can perform within your account and each is accompanied by a few instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server plans provide SSH access as standard, so you won't need to include any upgrades or activate anything - the moment the server is set up and you receive its login details, you shall be able to connect through its primary IP address and the login credentials that you have chosen through the signup process. Since the VPS accounts feature full root-level access, there are no restrictions with regards to the commands which you could run. Your server shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage just about everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. Thus, you may work with your files, databases and any applications which you install in a fast and safe way.
